About GroqInference is the engine that powers AI, and Groq was built from the silicon up to deliver the world's fastest inference at scale. We pioneered the LPU—the first processor designed specifically for AI inference—and are transforming that innovation into a global cloud platform powering production AI workloads.
With the capital, infrastructure, and team to execute, we're uniquely positioned to define the next era of AI infrastructure. The opportunity is massive, and it's still wide open. Now let's go build it!
Mission: Help build the product legal foundation that lets Groq develop, launch, and scale next-generation AI infrastructure and applications quickly, responsibly, and with the trust of our customers.
The Team: Groq’s Legal team is a strategic partner across the business as we scale GroqCloud™ services and expand our AI infrastructure offerings across IaaS, PaaS, and AI applications. As Product Counsel, you will report to the Senior Director, Commercial & Product Legal, and work closely with Product, Engineering, AI, Security, and Commercial Legal. You will help build the product legal function at Groq from the ground up, designing the processes, policies, and frameworks that will guide how we launch and scale products. You’ll adapt industry best practices to the speed of a high-growth company, with mentorship and support from senior counsel. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with real intellectual curiosity. You take feedback well, adapt quickly as priorities change, and do your best work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
What You’ll Do:
  • Build the product review process. Design Groq’s intake, launch checklists, approval frameworks, and decision records. Scale industry best practices down so they fit how our engineers ship.
  • Counsel product teams from concept to launch. Work with Product and Engineering from early design onward to spot legal issues and give practical advice matched to the level of risk.
  • Advise across key regulatory areas. Cover product, privacy, AI, data, cybersecurity, and consumer protection law across our IaaS, PaaS, and future AI application offerings. Escalate novel or high-impact issues to senior counsel.
  • Keep the product and our commitments aligned. With Commercial Legal, make sure what the product does matches our customer commitments, contracting positions, disclosures, technical documentation, and marketing claims.
  • Own core product terms and policies. Draft and maintain our cloud service terms, SLAs, Acceptable Use Policy, Privacy Policy, and developer terms.
  • Support privacy and AI governance. Contribute to data mapping, privacy and AI risk assessments, shared responsibility models, and data residency.
  • Handle AI-specific legal questions. Advise on model licensing and open-weight model terms, customer data use, and IP rights in inputs and outputs.
  • Partner with Security. Support incident response, breach notification analysis, vulnerability disclosure, and customer trust materials, including SOC 2 and ISO 27001.
  • Track the regulatory landscape. Follow developments in AI, privacy, and cloud regulation, including the EU AI Act and U.S. federal and state law. Turn them into practical guidance and input for the product roadmap.
  • Advise on export controls and trade compliance for AI compute and cloud services.
  • Help teams answer routine questions themselves through training, playbooks, and templates.
  • Manage outside counsel on specialized matters.

What You’ll Bring:
  • 4–6 years of legal experience at a top law firm, in-house, or both, with substantial exposure to product counseling, privacy, cybersecurity, or technology transactions
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure or platform services (IaaS/PaaS), such as cloud service agreements, SLAs, or shared responsibility models (strongly preferred)
  • A track record advising on AI/ML products, models, or data, including AI governance, model and data licensing, acceptable use, or AI regulatory compliance such as the EU AI Act
  • Working knowledge of global privacy laws and emerging AI regulatory frameworks
  • Familiarity with established product legal practices (product review, privacy programs, AI governance, customer trust commitments) and an interest in adapting them for a high-growth company
  • A builder’s mindset: you’re energized by creating processes, templates, and programs from scratch, with guidance from senior counsel
  • Ownership and initiative: you handle day-to-day product questions on your own and know when to escalate
  • A growth orientation: you seek out feedback and learn quickly
  • Pragmatic, commercially minded judgment: you know when “good enough” is the right answer, and you help teams find a path to yes
  • Real curiosity about how AI and infrastructure technology works, and a willingness to dig into the technical details
  • Clear, plain-language communication about legal risk, and the ability to earn the trust of stakeholders
  • Composure in a fast-moving environment with limited direction and imperfect information, while balancing competing priorities and multiple time-sensitive matters
  • Experience at an established cloud, infrastructure, semiconductor, or AI company (preferred); startup or high-growth experience is a plus
  • A JD or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution, plus active bar admission in good standing or other authorization to practice law
